March 2008 Newsletter

Thank you for stopping by –

Is it that time of year? Our bloomers are showing so don't forget to come by and see them.

The Redbuds and Dogwoods are always a delight and this year we planted a service berry, also known as a Shadbush. The common name of Shadbush was given to the tree by early settlers who associated its blooming with the runs of shad which formerly occurred in our creeks and rivers. It is most conspicuous in April when it becomes covered with drooping clusters of snowy white blossoms.

Our sign at Washington Lane has had a face lift and we'll be showing if off soon - Ed Innes our "Master Wood Worker" worked his magic and came up with a design that includes finials in the shape of eggcorns. We look forward to seeing our "Beacon of Light" back up at the Washington Lane and Meadowbrook Rd corner.

We are sad to report 2 of our members have take a leave of absence - Stan Lexow and Elayne Budman will be greatly missed. We thank them for all the good work they have done at M.B.S.

The Sanctuary is coming up on its 6th year and looking back we see what a tremendous accomplishment has taken place - to continue this trend, we need your help... Donations and memberships come with pride that you have saved a small piece of land from ever becoming anything other than what it originally was - "Open Space".

Please be generous - the property thanks you!

Thank you for stopping by and don’t forget, come again.

From all of us at M.B.S
